We Belong Here
24 x 18
Charcoal, Colored Pastel, Newspaper
Created in response to the widespread Asian hate crimes that occurred in early 2021. The distraught boy, holding a lowered American flag, reflects the deep emotions of ostracization and outrage that many Asian-Americans felt at the time. Accompanied by the foremost figure are real newspapers clips in a multitude of languages, highlighting the varied global responses to the hate crimes that were committed.

Self Portrait
24 x 18
Charcoal
Self-portrait sketch that experiments with distinct lighting. For a self-portrait, I decided to include symbolic objects. From a young age, I have played a variety of sports, and softball is a sport I have always been interested in.

Electrical Network
24 x 18
Charcoal, Colored Pencil
This piece depicts the power of connection and collaboration. While the individual is able to shine bright, the light bulbs around him remain unconnected and in the dark. Only by closing the circuit and bolstering those around him can everyone shine just as bright.
Won Gold Key for Scholastic Art and Writing 2023.

Still Life
24 x 18
Charcoal
Still-life sketch of multiple objects in charcoal. Experimentation with shading and arrangement of objects to balance the work.

The Indigenous Woman
24 x 18
Charcoal
The piece is inspired by an indigenous woman's personal story, who was from a non-profit organization I was involved in. She was raised in residential boarding school and forced to cut off all history, tradition, and connection with her heritage.

Rooster
18 x 24
Charcoal
Sketch of a rooster, highly detailed with marks and heavy use of shading for darker color. The surrounding grass contrasts the rooster and the two chicks.

Zero Gravity
16 x 20
Pencil
Drawn from an unorthodox perspective, the child leans against what viewers see as the floor. This piece depicts the freedom of space, where no direction is truly the correct orientation of gravity. Likewise, the child experiences this freedom through their imagination, where she is not bound by anything but her creativity.
Won Honorable Mention for Scholastic Art and Writing 2022.

Overflowing 16 x 20
Pencil
Bubble Bath” represents a child’s disconnection to reality. To an adult, bubble baths are just a routine. But to a child, it is a playground of their imaginations.
Won Silver Key for Scholastic Art and Writing 2022.
